Week 2 of Death Doula Training: A Global Journey Begins

Posted September 11, 2024

If you are present and reading this blog, I thank you.

As I sit here reflecting on Week 2 of my Death Doula training, I find myself filled with a deep sense of gratitude and excitement. When I first began this journey, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. What I do know is that this path called me for a reason, and I answered with an open heart.

This week’s biggest takeaway for me? The people. My fellow cohorts come from all corners of the globe—Canada, Costa Rica, the Netherlands, and of course, the USA. It’s a humbling experience to be part of a group that represents such a wide range of cultures, perspectives, and experiences. It also reminds me of how universal the need for End-of-Life (Death Doulas) truly is. Death, though different in every culture, is a shared human experience. And it’s becoming clearer to me that the role of a Death Doula extends beyond simply providing care; it’s about holding space for people’s final moments with compassion and dignity, no matter where in the world they are.

Today’s class felt especially warm and welcoming. There was an immediate sense of community and shared purpose that set a positive tone for the journey ahead. Each interaction, every conversation, confirmed for me that this is more than just training—it’s a shared mission to be present for those in their most vulnerable moments, to offer support when it’s needed most.

I’m excited to continue learning, growing, and eventually sharing the knowledge I gain with those who need it. There is so much more to come, and I can already feel the impact this experience will have, not just on my professional journey, but on my personal growth as well.

Thank you for being part of this experience with me.

Warmly,

Tammara Coleman, The PreNeed Doula
