As the summer draws to a close, I find myself standing at the threshold of a new and deeply meaningful chapter in my life. For years, I have dedicated myself to helping families prepare for the inevitable moments that come with the end of life. Through my work as The PreNeed Doula, I’ve guided countless individuals through the complexities of insurance, estate planning, and memorialization. But now, I’m taking a step further—a step that aligns with my passion for holistic care and my commitment to supporting others during life’s most vulnerable and profound transitions.
In September, I will begin my journey to become an End-of-Life (Death) Doula.
The term "Death Doula" might sound unfamiliar to some, but the role is one of incredible importance and compassion. Much like a birth doula assists during the birthing process, a Death Doula supports individuals and their families as they navigate the end of life. This role is non-medical but profoundly supportive, offering emotional, spiritual, and practical guidance to ensure that the dying experience is as peaceful and dignified as possible.
My work in the funeral industry has given me a unique perspective on how unprepared many of us are for death. The conversations I’ve had with grieving families have highlighted the need for more than just logistical planning. There’s a need for compassionate, holistic support that honors the individual’s life while providing comfort and clarity during a time of uncertainty.
This is why I’ve chosen to pursue education in end-of-life care. I want to expand my ability to serve those who are facing the end of life, to be a steady presence that can help ease their journey and provide comfort to their loved ones.
I’m excited to bring you along as I explore this new path. Whether you’re curious about what a Death Doula does, interested in holistic end-of-life care, or simply want to learn more about how to prepare for life’s final transition, I invite you to follow my journey. Together, we can learn, grow, and understand how to embrace the end of life and have open conversations able death and the dying process with compassion, dignity, and grace.
Stay tuned for updates, insights, and reflections as I take this important step in my career. I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
